Impostures Intellectuelles Quantized Relativity

چکیده
time no longer exists as an objective physical reality. “When even the gravitational field—geometry i n c a r n a t e — becomes a noncommuting (and hence nonlinear) operator, how can the classical interpretation of Gμν as a geometric entity be sustained? Now not only the observer, but the very concept of geometry, becomes relational and contextual.” The article might have passed unnoticed in the torrent of words produced by academics during the year 1996. Perhaps the heavy use of postmodernist jargon should have given it away. In any case, the author soon revealed it as a parody [S2]. This provoked a reaction from the editors of Social Text, followed by articles and exchanges of letters in the New York Times and the New York Review of Books and eventually in Le Monde. The dispute also generated new texts in the ultimate postmodern format, the Web page.

متن کاملAsymptotic Freedom of General Relativity and Its Possible Consequences
The formation of singularities in certain situations, such as the collapse of massive stars, is one of the unresolved issues in classical general relativity. Although no complete theory of quantum gravity exists, it is often suggested that quantum gravity effects may prevent the formation of these singularities. In this article we will present arguments that a quantized theory of gravity might ...
متن کاملGravity can be neither classical nor quantized
I argue that it is possible for a theory to be neither quantized nor classical. We should therefore give up the assumption that the fundamental theory which describes gravity at shortest distances must either be quantized, or quantization must emerge from a fundamentally classical theory. To illustrate my point I will discuss an example for a theory that is neither classical nor quantized, and ...
متن کاملQuantized shells as a tool for studying semiclassical effects in general relativity
Thin shells in general relativity can be used both as models of collapsing objects and as probes in the space-time outside compact sources. Therefore they provide a useful tool for the analysis of the final fate of collapsing matter and of the effects induced in the matter by strong gravitational fields. We describe the radiating shell as a (second quantized) many-body system with one collectiv...
متن کاملExtension of loop quantum gravity to f(R) theories.
The four-dimensional metric f(R) theories of gravity are cast into connection-dynamical formalism with real su(2) connections as configuration variables. Through this formalism, the classical metric f(R) theories are quantized by extending the loop quantization scheme of general relativity. Our results imply that the nonperturbative quantization procedure of loop quantum gravity is valid not on...
